The cylindrical tower has a mysterious story. Dating back to more than 1000 years, experts believe the UNESCO-listed Maiden Tower served as a Zoroastrian temple before becoming a watchtower in the 18th century. Follow the spiral staircase to the top of the 29 metre-structure (95.1 feet) for the best views of Icheri Sheher.
Endlessly popular with strollers, this leafy piazza forms Central Baku’s natural focus. FLAME TOWERS
The tallest of the three Flame Towers reaches 182 meters (597 feet) and is perched majestically above Baku Bay. From a distance, the trio resembles flames. And at night, the exterior lights up in the colors of fire. Completed in 2012, this trio of sinuous blue-glass skyscrapers forms contemporary Baku’s architectural sig¬nature. The design was conceived as a set of flames, driven from the ground up one of the main hills of Baku. Fire symbolizes energy and eternity, and also goes back to the ancient worship of this element.BAKU BOULEVARD Baku Boulevard, a 3.5 kilometer-promenade ( 2.2 miles), hugs the Caspian Sea with an amusement park, bars and cafés along with a cacti garden,Mini-Venice, and the Baku Eye. Azerbaijan’s top provincial holiday Centre, Qabala is a string of flashy new hotels and a burgeoning ski resort spread up into the foothills of some glorious forested moun-tains. Qabala or Gabala is the most ancient city of Azerbaijan. Before 1991 the city was known as Kutkashen, but after Azerbaijan's independence the town was renamed in honor of the much older city of Gabala.
Gabala was the ancient capital of Caucasian Albania. Archeological evidence indicates that the city functioned as the capital of Caucasian Albania as early as 4th century BC. The Ruins of the ancient town are situated 15 km from the regional center, allocated on the territory between Garachay and Jourluchay rivers. Gabala was located in the middle of the 2,500-year-old Silk Road, and was mentioned by Pliny the Younger as "Kabalaka", Greek geographer Ptolemy as "Khabala", Arabic historian Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Baladhuri as "Khazar". In the 19th century, the Azerbaijani historian Abbasgulu Bakikhanov mentioned in his book Gulistani Irem that Kbala or Khabala were in fact Gabala.
